Event Celebrates 5 years of 'Making Dundee a Living Wage City'

An event marking the 5th anniversary of the 'Making Dundee a Living Wage City' campaign took place today in Dundee.
Businesses, both accredited and non-accredited, were invited to the Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc (MSIP) to celebrate the achievements of the past half decade of the campaign while also being able to network and find out more about Living Wage accreditation.
In 2019, Dundee was the first city in the UK to adopt the new place-based approach which aimed to drive uptake in the real Living Wage by local businesses.
The campaign pulled together major local employers to agree to work as an action group to promote the Living Wage in the city and take forward agreed commitments.
Chair of the Making Dundee a Living Wage City Action Group Peter Allan and Council Leader Cllr John Alexander welcomed attendees to the event.
A panel and Q&A session led by Rachel Morrison-McCormick, from Living Wage Scotland, followed to discuss and ask questions about the past five years of the campaign, the accreditation process, Living Hours and the future of the campaign.
Round table discussions were held after where members of the Dundee Living Wage Action Group facilitated questions around a whole host of topics. A tour of the MSIP Innovation Hub building was offered as well as an invite to use the hot desking facilities at the venue.
Councillor Steven Rome, Convener of Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure, said: “Today was a great event and I was very pleased to attend. It was fantastic to see many of the organisations and businesses who have become accredited but also those who are curious as to what paying the Living Wage means for them as employers and their employees.
“I want to thank everyone for attending, especially our speakers who provided many insightful contributions which I’m sure will have an impact on the attendees. There were many positive and honest discussions had and I would encourage anyone with more questions to get in touch.
“I am very proud of the Dundee action group and Living Wage Scotland, not only for the event today, but for the hard work over the last five year and I look forward to the next five and beyond.”
