Repairs to Vandalised Bus Shelters

Councillors will be asked to approve a move to appoint a new contractor to repair vandalised city bus shelters.
The Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure Committee will hear that based on the average cost of repairs in the last three years, the cost of bus shelter vandalism over the next six years is anticipated to be £480,000.
A report explains that Dundee City Council owns and maintains 18 large city centre bus shelters and 330 smaller bus shelters.
The committee is being asked to approve the start of a procurement exercise for the provision of bus shelter glazing and repair services.
Committee convener Cllr Steven Rome said: “Bus shelter vandalism continues to be a drain on scarce council resources and detracts from the investment we could otherwise make to improving public services.
“We are in a position now where we need to appoint a new supplier to carry out these specialist repairs and the proposal is to undertake a competitive procurement through Public Contracts Scotland to award a contract for the work.
“The council continues to work with partners including Police Scotland to try and reduce the amount of bus shelter vandalism that occurs across the city.”
The committee meets on Monday April 22.
