Am I entitled to Housing and Council Tax Benefit?

Housing and Council Tax Benefit are both means tested benefits, so the amount that you will be entitled to depends on your circumstances and of those who live with you.
You may qualify for benefit if you are on a low income and your savings (joint savings if you have a partner) are less than £16,000. However, Pensioners who are in receipt of Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit) may still qualify despite having more than £16,000 capital.
Housing and Council Tax Benefit can both be awarded unless your circumstances dictate that you do not qualify for one benefit, but you qualify for the other.
Our application form deals with both types of benefit and can be obtained from the following:
- you can request an application form by dialling 0800 250025, or;
- visit any of our Benefit Enquiry Offices.
When an application for Housing and Council Tax Benefit is submitted, an assessment of your income, savings and capital, liability for rent and/or Council Tax and the financial circumstances of any other person in your household will determine if you qualify for any Housing and/or Council Tax Benefit.
Your circumstances may mean that you do not qualify for the full amount which you are required to pay in Rent and Council Tax however you may be entitled to some assistance.
