Departure of Whalers
Monday first, the spring holiday, witnesses the departure from Dundee of six of the Whalers at present in the dock. The Windward, Eclipse, Balaena, Morning, Diana and Snowdrop leave between midday and two o'clock and proceed direct to the whaling grounds, touching perhaps at Longhope, Hoy Island, Orkney should the wind be favourable.

The Windward has shipped a new type of whale boat 25 ft by 5 ft and with a keel 16 ft in length, she has a marvelous speed and lightness.

Ginger Cake
Melt 2 tablespoons butter and 6 tablespoons syrup. Stir in 1 teaspoon each of cloves, cinnamon, ginger and 2 teaspoons cream of tartar then slowly 2 eggs and 1lb flour.
Mix well pour into a lined baking tin and bake for I hour.

Sheriff and Weak Milk
In the Sheriff court on Tuesday - before Sheriff Campbell Smith - Isabella Spence or Watson, 11 Graham Place and Andrew Brown, 21 North Wellington Street were fined 5s with the alternative of 24 hours imprisonment for selling milk which was deficiant in fat.

The accused had forgotten to stir the milk before selling it, thus giving the first customers all the cream.
