Beer In The Street After Dundee Crash

Hundreds of bottles of lager, stout and export ale were smashed in Dens Road, Dundee at lunch-time today when a lorry belonging to Thomas Usher and Co Ltd., Edinburgh crashed into a bus stop.

The lorry which was city bound skidded on wet cobbles and collided with the pole, tearing off a wastepaper container and sending nearly two dozen crates cascading onto the pavement outside the Eagle Jute Mills.

Gallons of beer, mixed with rain which was falling steadily at the time, flowed down the gutter into the drain at the corner of Dens Road and Victoria Street, while a gallery of lunch-time customers from neighbouring bars stood by, open-mouthed.

Buses were put into service on the Lochee tram route this morning after a collision between a tramcar and a Post Office telephone van.

The van finished up at an angle of 45 degrees against a traffic light standard and was righted by another Post Office Van. The tramcar was able to proceed to the depot. No one was injured.
