Camperdown Wildlife Centre is open all year round! Organised group and family rates are available, and educational tours can also be arranged.

The Wildlife Centre is situated just 15 minutes drive from Dundee city centre, off the A923. It is located within the beautiful Camperdown Country Park, the largest in Dundee.

Visit the new Euopean Otters in their high-tech enclosure. The friendly otters enjoy playing in their open pools or basking in the sunshine. The observation building also allows you to learn about otters in the wild and you can see the otter sleeping quarters through the secret spying cameras!

Come and meet our new group of Black and White Lemurs (above) and the Red Bellied Lemurs (below) in a big new enclosure. These very rare animals can be seen climbing and playing in the trees and on rope swings, showing off their excellent acrobatic skills just for you. Check them out!

Visit the European Brown Bears in their impressive enclosure. You can also view them through the huge window in the new visitor centre (or 'broch'), designed by renowned American artist Mark Dion. Watch the bears as they forage and play in their very own splash pool.

Camperdown Zoofest 2010 – A Festival of Animals! - View the full programme here .

Something fun every weekday of the school holidays. Various events and activities including face-painting, storytelling, ‘animals up close’ safaris, workshops, quiz picnics, animal games and more! Check the website for details. Admission included in normal entrance fee to Wildlife Centre.

Community Open Day at Camperdown Wildlife Centre

Come along and see what’s been happening at Camperdown Wildlife Centre throughout the year. This special community day is free admission for all visitors. Watch out for some of our animal feeding and encounters with the keepers, too.

Meet Santa and The Animals

Santa and his elf will be visiting Camperdown Wildlife Centre every weekend during December, leading up to Christmas.

In a fantastic festive day out, visitors can see Santa in his colourfully decorated Grotto. Welcomed by the man himself, children will have the opportunity to let Santa know what they'd like for Christmas, and receive a special gift.

Mrs Claus will be serving hot drinks and mince pies in her cafe, where you can take shelter from the cold. Fun activities will also be on offer in the café.

Admission included in normal entrance fee to Wildlife Centre – Small additional charge for refreshments in Mrs Claus’ café.

No need to book, just come along.

Saturdays & Sundays 4th & 5th, 11th & 12th and 18th & 19th December. 2010 12noon–4.00pm.


A New Development For 2010

New Centre

In the next few weeks you will see the start of an exciting development in Camperdown Park.

The old Wildlife Centre entrance building will be demolished and replaced with a new entrance facility, comprising of an 80-seat cafe with outdoor terrace, retail area and an education room which will also cater for a variety of functions.

The plan shown is an indication of what the building and surrounding areas will look like on completion.

Camperdown Wildlife Centre will operate as normal during these works. Please follow the signs for the temporary entrance.

Please ‘bear’ with us during these works. Dundee City Council looks forward to welcoming you to the new centre when finished.

The Centre is an 18 acre site which consists of generally flat terrain and is considered reasonably wheelchair and pushchair friendly. The majority of the paths are tarmac with ramps to all raised viewing areas. We offer free wheelchair loan to visitors.

shop –due to the refurbishment of the Wildlife Centre the shop is closed meantime. It will re-open towards the end of this year.

refreshments – due to the refurbishment of the Wildlife Centre refreshments are not available meantime.

picnic area – if the weather is fine, why not enjoy your refreshments alfresco?

toilet/baby changing facilities – are situated at the main entrance.

free parking – there is ample free parking opposite the main entrance to Camperdown Wildlife Centre.

Camperdown Wildlife Centre is one of the zoos linked to the Association Européenne pour l’Etude et la Conservation des Lémuriens (AEECL). The association is made up of a group of European zoological gardens and universities, that have joined forces to carry out conservation and research projects for Madagascar’s highly endangered lemurs. Members help to raise money, provide information and captive manage some of the world’s endangered lemur species.

The member zoos have furthermore initiated captive breeding programmes for the blue-eyed Black Lemur, Crowned Lemur and the Red-Bellied Lemur within the framework of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA).

Camperdown Wildlife Centre has put together the education series 'wild about learning'. The aim is to supply the highest standard of zoological education programme to visitors using every possible resource that is available to education staff.
