Art and Music Centre

[Arts Department]The Art and Music Centre, situated on the Lending Floor, houses the art, music, audio and language courses collections. The DVD Centre is also located here.

Books

Books on all aspects of art and music can be borrowed from the Art and Music Centre. Subjects covered include painting, drawing, sculpture, music scores and biographies. There is also a range of reference material. Books on architecture and photography are now also available.

Magazines are also available including NME, Q, Classic fm, The Artist, Jazz Journal and Music week. These are available for reading, or consultation, in the library. Back issues are also available.

Seating areas are situated throughout the department, for browsing, or study, and a selection of art cards are also available to purchase.

Books, which are new additions to stock, are prominently displayed near the counter area, and there is also a 'Returned Today' area for new CD's.

Audio

The CD and cassette collection caters for most musical tastes, including popular, classical, jazz, Scottish and world music.

Anyone over the age of 14 who lives, works or studies in Dundee is eligible to take out audio items. Borrowers can choose to pay 50p per item as they borrow, or pay an annual subscription of £10.00 (£2.00 for senior citizens). Eight items may be borrowed at any time for a period of three weeks. In addition to CDs and audio books, up to four music cassettes can be borrowed free of charge.

Language Courses

A wide range of language learning material is available on cassette and CD. These courses may be borrowed for a period of three weeks on any adult ticket. Courses are available in many languages including recently added Romanian, Polish and Bulgarian.

Audio Books

A large collection of audio books are available on tape or CD. Whether you are on the move, too busy to catch up with the latest titles or have difficulty reading text, we should have a title to suit you from our collection of biographies, fiction, self-help, comedy and plays. Up to eight talking books can be borrowed at any time.

Services to Blind and Partially Sighted Readers

A collection of books in Braille are available for loan. Membership of the audio library is free to those registered blind. A reading edge machine, which converts the written word into speech, and a CCTV enlarger, which can greatly magnify text, are available for use in the audio visual lab and staff are more than willing to help any borrowers who require assistance.
