Parliament Information For All
SPICe Project Dundee
The Scottish Parliament is constantly striving to involve the public more closely in its decision-making process, and approved a project in 2001 which aimed to bring its own information service closer to the people.
SPICe (Scottish Parliament Information Centre) produces research papers and other publications to serve Parliament's needs and makes these available to the public on the Scottish Parliament's website. In accordance with the Parliament's policy of openness and accessibility, SPICe also supplies Partner Libraries with hard copy publications.
The Partner Library network is effectively the public face of SPICe and the Scottish Parliament.
Each constituency in Scotland has a designated Partner Library,
whose responsibility is to provide access to the publications of
the Scottish Parliament. Dundee's own Partner Libraries serve
the Dundee West constituency through Reference
and Information Centre, Central Library and Dundee East constituency
through Broughty
Ferry Community Library.
The aim of the SPICe Project Dundee was to publicise Scottish Parliamentary information - its business, decisions, debates and research on devolved issues - to as wide an audience as possible. It is precisely these devolved areas, including health, education and training, which directly impact on all our lives. In so doing, the intention was to promote the role of public libraries as focal points in local communities for information concerning the Scottish Parliament.
There is an online version of the findings of the SPICE Project Dundee: Final Report (1MB Adobe Acrobat PDF). Please note that this version only includes selected appendices - for a hard copy version of the full report, please email spice@dundeecity.gov.uk.
