Leisure and Sport

The Leisure and Sport Sub Group of the Children's Integrated Services Implementation Management Group has a key aim of working with a range of partners to provide leisure and sporting opportunities for all children and thus promote physical wellbeing for our children which will ideally place them on a positive pathway with sport and leisure for the rest of their lives.

In order to undertake this remit the Sub Group has two focus groups which include sport and the green environment.

The key partners include the Council Departments along with SportTayside & Fife and sportscotland and the key actions include:-

  • Increasing levels of physical activity
  • Take forward the sportscotland initiative of active schools (Ross to amend)
  • To reduce barriers to entry for all children in respect of sport and physical activity
  • To improve community access to facilities
  • To develop the green environment to enhance opportunities for children to play in and learn about the environment.
  • To develop specific problems for all groups tailor-made either for individual groups or specifically for integration.

It is recognised that a sound leisure experience will bring many benefits to children and encouraging the access to leisure and sport will contribute to children's general health and wellbeing and also provide opportunities for learning and development as well as promoting integration and social skills which will be of benefit right throughout their lives.  By encouraging children into sporting activities through inclusion of sport and leisure as part of everyday culture, this will contribute to the Quality of Life of our children with a greater chance of making a positive impact right through their lives.

The group has only been in existence since 2006.  However the actions identified and programmes currently running have provided many benefits already to many children and the key objective of the group is to sustain and, where possible, develop and improve the existing programmes, actions and outcomes all for the benefit of our children.
