Bridge Maintenance

As required by the Roads (Scotland) Act, the Bridge Maintenance service provides for the effective management and maintenance of the city's adopted bridges and retaining walls to ensure the safety of all road users and pedestrians. This includes maintaining a register of adopted highway structures.

The service ensures that regular inspections and structural assessments of the highway structures are carried out and seeks to ensure that appropriate maintenance and strengthening works to protect this important infrastructure asset are undertaken. It is critical that regular reports on the condition of the bridge stock are carried out as well as exploring opportunities for partnership working and joint funding.

The City Engineer also acts as Engineer to the Tay Road Bridge and is responsible for all major engineering matters relating to the bridge.
