Traffic Management
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 S122 place a duty on the Council as the Traffic Authority to secure the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of vehicular and other traffic (including pedestrians). Expenditure is incurred on the development and use of the Urban Traffic Control System along with physical changes involving traffic calming, walking and cycling projects and improvements to the walking and cycling environment.
In the interest of good management practice existing traffic management measures will be kept under review to ensure account is taken of changes affecting roads and to ensure that transportation systems continue to function freely except where such freedom imposes unacceptable costs to the community as a whole at local and national level.
This service will also take account of supplementary guidelines issued by the Planning and Transportation Department.
