Broughty Castle - The History

Broughty Castle sits imposingly at the mouth of the Tay and it commands magnificent views over the river. Built in 1496 on a rocky promontory it has faced sieges and battles which have left their scars - marks made by cannon shot are still visible. During the eighteenth century it fell into ruin to be rebuilt in 1860s as part of the Crimean War effort.

Broughty Castle Museum houses fascinating displays of the life of Broughty Ferry, its people, the environment and the wildlife that live close by.

Facilities

Ceremonies are held in the grounds and can accommodate a maximum number of 80 guests. There is poor weather back up in the castle basement and it can accommodate 20 guests. If you require seating we have 65 seats available.

As a fortified and listed building, Broughty Castle has very restricted access for people whose mobility is limited. The approach to the Castle is up a cobbled ramp and gravelled ground which is not wheelchair friendly. Unfortunately there is no dedicated parking area but there is limited parking nearby. Due to its location, Broughty Castle affords an exceptional opportunity for photographs before and/or after your ceremony.
