Before becoming involved in providing a service for a pupil, the educational psychologist would look for the consent and involvement of the parent / carer. In some circumstances a young person over the age of 12 may request support from the psychological service directly without first seeking the consent of a parent/carer.

The educational psychologist will seek a meeting to include the parent/carer and pupil along with educational staff to explain the role of the educational psychologist, consider any expectations and begin an exploration of relevant issues. The educational psychologist will also seek to ensure that the views of the parent/carer, and pupil are taken into account in any planning.

DEPS provide assessment that is consistent with the guidelines produced by the Scottish Division of Educational Psychology and the Association of Principal Educational Psychologists. For further information please refer to: http://sdep.bps.org.uk/sdep/publications/assessment.cfm
