Global Digital City Network
What is GDCN?
The Global Digital City Network (GDCN) is an international organisation between ‘knowledge based’ industrial cities. It is designed to encourage the sharing and exchange of information and technologies in the multimedia (and other knowledge based) sectors to promote the competitiveness of its member cities.
Background to Dundee’s Membership
Dundee became a founder member of the GDCN through contacts developed over the last 6 years between the University of Abertay, Dundee and the Gifu region of Japan. Gifu is the development centre for the computer game technology in Japan and Abertay University is the leading UK University in computer games development technology. The university have identified several possible benefits for themselves in way of staff and student exchanges.
Dundee City Council is keen to promote the growth of all of Dundee’s knowledge based sectors and the GDCN offers an opportunity to forge links and possible synergies with like-minded cities, not only in the area of Digital Media but in other knowledge based sectors (e.g. biotechnology).
Which cities are involved?
The GDCN was jointly proposed by the Mayors of Chunchon City (Bai Ke Sup) and Kakamigahara (Mori Shin) in 1999. Membership now extends to the following:
