Policy and Europe

The Policy and Europe Section has a broad remit that covers the following areas of responsibility:

Policy and Strategy Development

Leading on departmental policy development
Contributing to corporate policy development
Development of economic development plan and annual service plan.
Lobbying Central Government and the Scottish Government and responding to Consultation documents
Airport and infrastructure policy development

European Liaison

Development of Corporate and European Policy
Membership of East of Scotland European Consortium
Coordination of Council's involvement in trans-national partnerships

External Funding

Securing external funding for the Council. Co-ordinating role in all European funding applications, the main sources of which are the European Regional Development Fund and the European Social Fund
Co-ordinating applications to the various lottery boards
Assisting local organisations attract funding from a wide range of sources e.g. Europe, Lottery, Trusts

Social Economy

Development of Social Economy Strategy in conjunction with Social Economy Partnership
Provision of assistance to new and existing social enterprises
Enterprise Advice Project
- Business start-up support & aftercare
- Small grants
- Practical assistance with business planning
- Network of support organisations
