National Parent Forum
Information/Service?
Some of you may have been involved in the National Parent Councils Survey in early 2009 and the result of this was that "79% of those who expressed a view stated that they are in favour of a national body to represent the views of parents. The main reason given for wanting a national body was so that parents could have a voice at a national level. Parents considered that a national organisation should represent a wide range of interests and areas."
As a result, the first meeting of the National Parent Forum took place at the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow on 21st November, with a total of 30 out of the 32 local authorities in Scotland represented at the meeting.
The main areas of discussion raised were:
- Resources/funding
- Local/national policy
- Curriculum Communication Support for all children
- Training/support
- Learning and Teaching standards
The next meeting of the National Parent Forum is scheduled for 6 March 2010 in Glasgow.
The representatives for the Dundee Parents are Kiran Oza, from St Joseph's Parent Council and Hannah Henderson from Craigowl Parent Council.
