Radiation Monitoring
Dundee City Council (DCC) participates in the West of Scotland Radiation Monitoring Scheme (WSERMS) to monitor environmental radioactivity in a wide range of natural materials throughout Scotland. The scheme relies upon each participating authority providing samples and information for analysis to the laboratory in Glasgow.
Samples submitted include: river sediments, street dust, locally produced meat/vegetables, seaweed, tip leachate and rainwater.
DCC Environmental Health Officers monitor environmental gamma radiation every 3 months, these results are submitted to the laboratory.
The results from the radiation monitoring demonstrate that the levels of radiation are normally below the threshold of detection in the samples submitted.
