Elections to the Council - What's New Since Last Time
Elections to the Council take place every four years and are combined with elections to the Scottish Parliament The next elections will take place on 3rd May 2007.
There are currently 29 Wards in Dundee, each with one Councillor, elected on the first past the post system. This will change at the next elections to be held on 3 May 2007 as these will be the first elections to be based on the Single Transferable Vote (STV). The number of wards will be reduced to 8. These wards will be multi member wards. 5 wards will have 4 members and 3 wards will have 3 members so there will still be 29 Councillors.

Scottish Parliament Elections
Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) are elected by two methods:
- Using the "first past the post" system, voters elect a Constituency MSP, based on the UK Parliamentary constituencies, as at May 2003. Dundee has two Constituency MSPs.
- Voters elect a further 56 regional MSPs using the "additional member" system of proportional representation. The system uses regional lists which include candidates selected by political parties and independent candidates, each region elects 7 list MSPs. Dundee is in the North East Scotland Region.
You can find out which MSPs represent you, information about what they do and how to contact them by visiting the Scottish Parliament website.
