On 5th May 2011 Scotland will go to the polls to elect 129 MSP’s - 73 of which are constituency members elected using the first past the post system. The remaining 56 are regional members who are elected using the Party List System.

Dundee City Council's Chief Executive is the Returning Officer for Dundee City East and Dundee City West constituencies and also the Counting Officer for the Referendum.
Polling takes places between 7.00 am and 10.00 pm. The local count will be held overnight on Thursday 5th May and the constituency results are expected to be announced by 4am. The UK referendum count cannot by law start until 4.00 pm on 6th May and the results are expected by 6.00 pm.
