How to Register to Vote

Are you on the register of electors?

If you are not on the register of electors then you will not be able to vote.  You can check copies of the register at the Central Library, Wellgate and the Electoral Registration Office, 18 City Square.

Details for the electoral register are collected once a year.  All households are sent an Electoral Form in late August to early September each year for householders to complete and return to the Electoral Registration Officer.  If your name is not included on this form you run the risk of not being included in the Electoral Register and therefore unable to vote. If you are not on the register or need to change your details, for instance if you have moved house, then see rolling registration.

Rolling Registration

Rolling registration procedures mean that the register of electors is updated every month. This means that you can either add or update your details more regularly and quickly.

If you have either moved home, are coming up to 18 years of age or are not on the register, all you need to do is fill in a voter registration form.

The last day for receipt of applications to be included on the register in time to vote at the election on 4th June 2009 is 19th May 2009.

You can download a Registration Form here.
