Can I have a bonfire to get rid of my garden waste?

Yes, but we would prefer that you dispose of this waste at one of the Council's disposal facilities.

While you can have a bonfire it can create problems for you if the smoke from your bonfire blows into a neighbour's property. You may be causing a legal smoke nuisance if this happens and could be reported to Environmental Health and Trading Standards. It is an offence to create a smoke nuisance.

Before setting your garden bonfire, please have an informal chat with an Environmental Health Officer who will advise you accordingly.
