I want to use my open fire. Can I can burn logs?

No, here in Dundee there are restrictions on the types of solid fuels which you are allowed to burn in a fireplace. Every house in Dundee is within one of several Smoke Control Areas which means that only solid fuels approved by the Scottish Government may be burned in an open fireplace.

Logs are not approved for use in a Smoke Control Area. Also certain types of coal are not approved. For more information about smoke control please visit our Smoke Control webpage.

If you are thinking of using your fireplace this winter, please have an informal chat with an Environmental Health Officer before buying solid fuel or visit smokecontrol.defra.gov.uk for the most up to date list of approved fuels.

It is an offence to knowingly burn solid fuel in a fireplace of a dwelling, if it is not an approved fuel.
