Council Tax - Ways to Pay
Information/Service?
Council Tax payments are due on or before 1st day of each month from April to January each year. Payments received anytime after the due date of each month (generally the 1st of the month) could result in you being in arrears and receiving a reminder notice as the Council tightens up on late payers. The best way to avoid this is to sign up to pay by Direct Debit.
1. Direct Debit
The Council offers a range of pay methods to the citizens of Dundee, but Direct Debit is the most efficient & cost effective way to administer Council Tax payments. It is estimated that a Direct Debit payment costs 5p to administer as opposed to the average cost of 59p for the other payment methods. This means that for each monthly payer converted to Direct Debit from one of the other payment methods there is a minimum estimated annual saving of approximately £5.40 per payer.
To try to boost the number of people choosing the Direct Debit way to pay, Dundee City Council is reassuring customers that the levels of control and protection over their money that Direct Debit payers enjoy is higher than other methods of payment. There is an immediate money-back guarantee from the bank, advance notice of date and any changes to amount and the right to cancel at any time. Automatic payment also gives instant peace of mind, ensuring a bill is never forgotten and all without having to find a cheque book or stand in a queue. You may find our frequently asked questions about Direct Debit useful.
If you choose to pay by Direct Debit, you can choose to pay either on the 1st, 10th, 18th or 25th of each month.
