Antisocial Behaviour
Dundee City Council is committed to tackling antisocial behaviour within its communities. The Housing department set up a specialist team in November 2001 to address the issues of antisocial behaviour and has developed the team to provide advice and assistance to all residents of Dundee. The team has expanded to deal with reported incidents of antisocial behaviour throughout the City and is benefiting from the addition of a solicitor and a victim support officer.
In order to tackle the problems faced by victims, the Antisocial Behaviour Team work in partnership with Tayside Police, Dundee Community Mediation, Dundee Families Project and other support services.
The main emphasis of the team’s work is to prevent antisocial behaviour from happening. Encouraging neighbours to discuss problems amicably through mediation and encouraging antisocial families to seek help with their behaviour are core aspects of the team’s work.
However, where preventative measures prove unsuccessful, the team may take appropriate action against offenders. This action can involve issuing warnings, applying for Antisocial Behaviour Orders (ASBO’S), converting council tenancies to Short Scottish Secured Tenancies or ultimately raising an action to evict someone from their home (council tenants only).
