Medical Points for Housing
If your present home is unsuitable for your needs because you or a member of your household have a health problem or if you need to be housed near a relative to give or receive support for health reasons, you may qualify for medical points.
How do I apply?
You should complete a Housing Application Form available from the Lettings Centre or either of our housing offices. The form should be returned to the Lettings Centre, 169 Pitkerro Road, Dundee, DD4 8ES, or either of our housing offices.
If you are finding it difficult to cope in your present home because of health reasons you can ask for a Medical Assessment Form from your medical practice, the Lettings Centre or either housing office. Once you have completed this form, it should be returned to the Lettings Centre or any housing office. You can also return it to your Health Centre.
Your doctor or any health authority may support your claim to be rehoused by forwarding details to our Medical Adviser, who will assess your case.
How is my application assessed?
Any medical evidence submitted on your behalf will be sent to the Medical Advisory Service to be assessed. The Advisory Service will then decide how urgent your need is to be rehoused on medical grounds and what type of housing will suit you best. Assessment can take up to 6 weeks.
This department will be advised of any points and what type of housing you require under the medical award.
When we have received this, we will write to you advising you of any recommendation made. Then you will be offered a house which meets the requirements of your medical needs, e.g. ground floor/level access/near support.
If the housing you have requested on your application form does not meet the medical criteria, you will be sent an appointment to discuss your requirements.
If you are not awarded medical points we will advise you.
If you disagree with the medical priority you may ask for your case to be reviewed by the Medical Advisory Service.
How long can I expect to wait for a house?
This will depend upon the points awarded to your application and availability of a suitable house in the areas you have requested.
You will only be offered houses which meet your medical requirements as assessed by our Medical Advisor.
What happens if I refuse a house?
If you refuse offers of suitable housing that would have met your medical priority we may ask the Medical Advisor to review your case. Your medical priority may be reassessed.
