You are considered to be homeless if you (and your family) have no permanent accommodation of your own in this country. Living in moveable structures such as a boat or a caravan are not considered as being permanent accommodation.

You can also be homeless due to a number of other reasons including:

  • Serious overcrowding which may affect the health of people within the household
  • Threats or harassment made by people outwith the household
  • Illegal eviction by a private landlord
  • The property is unsuitable for living in (for example due to serious dampness or disrepair)
  • You currently have a roof over your head but have no right to legally occupy the property.
