Housing Options in Dundee - Dundee Homefinder Service
Depending on your income and circumstances you may find it difficult to find housing that meets your needs.
Renting in the private sector may be an option, but many landlords ask for a cash deposit. If you are on a low income or benefits finding this amount of money can be difficult.
To help people gain access to private sector housing Dundee Cyrenians have set up the Dundee Homefinder Service.

What is the Dundee Homefinder Service?
- We act as an independent third party between you and a landlord.
- We liaise with local landlords to provide a tenancy suitable for your housing needs.
- We may provide landlords with a written ‘bond guarantee’ on your behalf, equivalent in value to a typical deposit of one months rent.
- We will arrange support to help you settle into your tenancy. We will then visit you in your home at regular intervals.
Everyone benefits from this service:
- You get a place you can call home and the landlord gets a suitable tenant for their property.
- You can also benefit from the support that we offer to ensure that your tenancy has the best possible chance of success.
How can the Dundee Homefinder Service help me?
We can help you in lots of ways, for example:
- Finding private sector rented housing Providing a Deposit Guarantee Scheme
- Filling in forms and claiming benefits
- Finding furniture etc.
- Arrange low cost white goods
- liaising with other agencies on your behalf
Who can use the Dundee Homefinder Service?
- Single persons and couples who are in housing need and who are capable of resettling in private rented accommodation.
- Where a ‘bond guarantee’ has been granted, you must be willing to accept short term tenancy support. However, if you require high levels of support, you are unlikely to be suitable for the scheme.
How do I get help from the Dundee Homefinder Service?
- If you think we can help, you can contact us directly.
- Alternatively if you are involved with any other agencies (e.g. Social Work or Health Services) they can make a referral on your behalf
What happens next?
- Once you or your representative has contacted us, we will make an appointment for an interview with one of our staff.
- This may last for up to an hour as we seek to find out about your needs and the type of accommodation best suited to you and in the area of your choice.
- You will be asked to provide the names and addresses of two referees (not friends or family) who are able to comment on your suitability for our scheme.
- After your interview your references will be checked.
- We will ask you to get in touch with us in ten working days for an update on your progress.
- You may be asked to attend a second interview if we feel that there are other issues we need to discuss with you.
- If you are suitable for our project we will try to house you as soon as possible.
