Community Regeneration Section
The section is responsible for supporting the implementation of Dundee City Council's Scheme of Decentralisation.
Main Aims
- to create stable, sustainable and empowered communities throughout Dundee, in which people can live and prosper
- to bring the Council close to its communities
- to build an active and informed citizenship

- Local Community Plans
Working in partnership with communities and partner agencies to develop local community plans in response to local needs and issues. - Local Community Planning Partnerships
Bringing together representatives from Council Departments and partner agencies to work with community stakeholders in identifying issues and actions plans. - Building Community Capacity
Working with individuals and community groups to develop their skills, knowledge and abilities. - Community Councils and Neighbourhood Representative Structures
Developing neighbourhood representative structures as an alternative to Community Councils, but with the same rights to consultation and information. - Community Regeneration Forums
Local organisations formed to represent community interests and allocate funding to projects to assist the regeneration of some of the most deprived areas in Dundee. - Supporting Activities
Developing and maintaining community profiles for each neighbourhood across the city of Dundee.
Developing Community Capacity
- Supporting people to be confident, skilled and active members of the community.
- Enabling community groups to be active and have more influence.
- Supporting community groups to access resources and to deliver services effectively.
- Helping community organisations to plan, manage and assess their work effectively.
- Encouraging community organisations to include a wide range of people in their work.
- Working with community groups to develop productive networks and relationships.
- Supporting the development of community capacity building sub-groups.
- Support community groups to provide and manage local services.
- Work with communities to achieve improvements in the quality of community life.
Supporting Community Groups
In their day-to-day work, Communities Officers work with a range of community groups to achieve the above objectives, including:
Community Councils:
Recognised as statutory bodies under Dundee City Council Revised Scheme for the Operations of Community Councils.
Neighbourhood Representative Structures:
Organisations representing geographic areas not normally smaller than the area population covered by a local authority electoral ward.
Tenants/Residents Groups:
Groups normally focussed on housing or environmental issues, representing the interests/needs of tenants living in a designated geograpic area.
Action Groups:
Constituted community groups representing the interests/views of people living in a designated area on a range of issues.
Single Issue Groups:
Similar to Action Groups but focussed on a common interest or issue e.g. Community Safety.
Locally Managed Centres/Projects:
Constituted Community organisations with a primary responsibility for managing local centres, projects, facilities and resources.
Community Regeneration Fund Forums:
Local organisations formed to represent community interests in the regeneration of some of the most deprived areas in Dundee.
