Following the outstanding success and popularity of last year, which saw a record 26,000 visitors flock to the show grounds, the Dundee Flower & Food Festival promises to be just as entertaining in 2008. A major event in the Scottish horticultural and culinary calendars, it offers a 3-day menu of food, flowers and fun for all the family.
TV gardening presenter Chris Beardshaw is just one of the highlights at this year’s Festival. Chris, who has had a keen interest in gardening from the tender age of 4 will be sharing his gardening tips and passion for plants. The Bayer Garden Roadshow Team are back by popular demand, with their question and answer sessions and demonstrations on a range of gardening topics. Visitors can also expect the usual high standard of stunning floral and gardening displays for which the show has become renowned. On Friday afternoon visitors can attend a recording of BBC Scotland’s popular radio programme, the Beechgrove Potting Shed hosted by Frieda Morrison, and Saturday and Sunday visitors will be able to attend the ever-popular Floral Art Demonstrations. There’s also an amazing variety of plants, bulbs, furniture and gardening accessories for sale, and a children’s activity marquee – in fact, something on offer for gardeners of all ages.
The 2008 Food Festival welcomes celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott, who will entertain festival-goers in his flamboyant and inimitable style with inspiring cookery demonstrations. There’s a packed cookery demonstration programme featuring top Scottish chefs from hotels and restaurants around the country. Plus the opportunity to purchase top quality produce such as, meat, confectionery, cheeses, jams, chutneys and olive oils from the various stalls in the Food Marquee, and sample award-winning Arbroath Smokies cooked to order in the show grounds. And if all that’s not enough, then allow yourself to be shaken and stirred with the whisky-tasting and cocktail-making sessions hosted by The Famous Grouse Experience!
If gardening and cookery don’t whet your appetite, then you can always pop into the extensive Craft Marquee, which features makers and artists from all over the UK, selling items for the home, beautiful jewellery and gift ideas. Or pull up a seat at the open air, live music stage and soak up the atmosphere!
