Books We Have Reviewed
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
Mixed comments about this popular book:-
- Not well written
- Couldn't get into it
- Millions of people liked it
- Liked the storyline but found it unnecessarily convoluted
- Interesting links to Rosslyn Chapel
Buddha Da by Anne Donovan
- It was a good read and we all liked it.
- A good Glasgow love story, entertaining and humorous.
- All the characters were searching for something more in their lives.
- A good example of how lack of communication leads to break-down in family life - a happy ending when everyone reconnects.
- Written in Glasgow dialect - worked for most of the group but not all.
Skinnydip by Carl Hiasen
- Storyline good
- Feel it was spoilt by too much going on
- Bit repetitive in places
- Some of us quite liked the humour
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
Wide range of opinions amongst group members:
- Both disturbing and realistic
- Liked the concept of heaven being what you want it to be!
- Mixed feelings about the conclusion: from tame/disappointing to fulfilling in seeing the family reunited and recovering from the tragedy of their daughter's death
Lucia, Lucia by Adriana Trigiani
We all enjoyed this well-written book. It was difficult to put down as you were keen to find out what happened to Lucia. We especially liked the ending as it was open to your own interpretation. Tinged with sadness.
