Books We Have Reviewed

This is a very moving tale of personal redemption set against the recent tumultuous history of Afghanistan. It shows the inquestining love and devotion of a childhood friendship that battles class and caste boundaries, showing that privilege does not create the greater man.

After a childhood tragedy this friendship is broken by Amir and he spends the rest of his life haunted by his cowardice and its consequence.

Amir flees from the Taliban to America, but he eventually returns to Afghanistan where he witnesses the destruction and oppression of the Taliban.

By facing a childhood nemesis and rescuing a child, Amir finally forgives himself and accepts that he has been punished.

This book is beautifully written and leaves the reader with the belief that there is always absolution for one's sins and hope of the endurance of the human spirit.

The group found this book enjoyable and easy to read. It gave a realistic portrayal of wartime life for ordinary people. We all found it amusing and straight to the point
