Dundee A Smart City
In October 2002, Dundee City Council launched the Dundee Discovery Card programme which was a project aimed at making it easier for the people of Dundee to access services and facilities throughout the city and beyond using smartcard technology.
The project’s main objective was to streamline existing Council card schemes into one card and to simplify and extend access to facilities and information. The Dundee Discovery Card is now delivered as the National Entitlement Card and is locally branded for residents of Dundee City Council area.
National Entitlement Cards are just one element in a wider Scottish Government sponsored programme which aims to encourage all local councils to share resources and create efficiencies to ensure that Scottish citizens have easier to access services and facilities at the first point of contact with their local council.
Due to our success with the Dundee Discovery Card, Dundee City Council is delighted to be leading the way in the wider development of the National Entitlement Card Programme and is home to the National Entitlement Card Programme office where we are working with all Local Authorities to establish a unified approach to the access and delivery of services for Scottish citizens using one card (a smartcard) to replace many.
