Lochee redevelopment contract
WORK ON a new road and upgraded car park for the centre of Lochee could start early in the New Year.
A project costing more than £500,000 to connect Aimer Square/Balgay Street to Lochee High Street and resurface and almost double the capacity of the Sinclair Street car park will be considered by councillors on Monday December 10.
Will Dawson convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee said: “The Lochee Physical Regeneration Framework was agreed in 2008 to stimulate investment in the area.
“A considerable amount of work has already gone on in the district centre, including the demolition of part of the Highgate Centre, which has cleared the way for this next phase to link the heart of the commercial area with transport connections.
“Sinclair Street car park will increase in capacity from 18 to 30 spaces, and the new street will allow easier access to the recently approved transport hub.”
If the city development committee, which meets on December 10, approves a tender by Tayside Contracts, work could start early in the New Year and be finished by spring.
