Cemetery Improvement Proposals

Improvement projects worth over £60,000 at the Howff and Western cemeteries are being recommended for approval at Dundee City Council’s environment committee on Monday December 10.

Councillors will consider a continuation to a programme at the historic Howff graveyard.

This would involve the removal of vegetation and the repointing of the boundary wall, with the gate and railings repainted.

Meanwhile, at Western Cemetery it is proposed to install a monumental plinth in the created remains area so that memorial plaques can be put up.

Environment convener Councillor Craig Melville said: “I am pleased to see these plans for work at these two cemeteries.

“The Howff is an integral part of the city’s history and this project would be a continuation of improvements to that site.

“The cremated remains section of Western Cemetery is a new development and I am glad to see how we are looking to take this forward.”
