Menzieshill Nursery Platinum Power
Menzieshill Nursery School is celebrating its platinum power after winning a top health award.
The Dundee City Council nursery has gone one better than its previous gold Health Promoting School accolade to reach top ranking in the scheme. It is the first time this has been achieved in the city.
Local authority education convener Cllr Liz Fordyce presented staff and pupils with the platinum award on Tuesday (March 9).
After going for gold, Menzieshill continued its healthy eating and active play initiatives and developed a new drive to keep on improving wellbeing for staff, pupils and parents.
The young children have been taking part in a 'From Farm to Fork' project which has encouraged them to find out about the food chain and the countryside.
There have been vegetables grown at the nursery which have been cooked into nutritious meals and a recipe book has been created. The rural theme has been continued with new planters created in the playground from tractor tyres.
Cllr Fordyce said: "This award is a huge accolade for Menzieshill Nursery and I would like to congratulate staff, pupils and families for their efforts.
"It is a tremendous example of how everyone is working together for health improvement. I am sure that the lessons these children have learned at nursery will stay with them for life.
"Menzieshill Nursery continues to inspire with its imaginative approaches to health and wellbeing."
The nursery is also the holder of the prestigious green flag award under the Eco School scheme.
