Kingspark Update
An update on the £15 million plan to replace Kingspark School will go before the city council's education committee on Monday (June 23).
A report outlines how NHS Tayside and Angus Council are involved in the project, with agreement to make capital cost contributions of up to £1.8 million and £1.2 million respectively.
Angus Council are also to meet their share of the annual staffing and running costs of the new school, with a minimum annual contribution based on 8 pupils.
Dundee City Council education convener Cllr Laurie Bidwell said: "Dundee City Council's plans for a replacement for Kingspark School are focused on providing facilities to continue this superb service for the future.
"I am delighted that NHS Tayside and Angus Council have joined with the city council to make contributions to this important project.
"Kingspark quite rightly enjoys a reputation for excellence and its staff show great dedication and commitment. We want to build on that for the care of more children in the years ahead."
There are 125 pupil places identified as being required in the replacement. The report details an accommodation schedule for the new school that includes 22 classrooms in 3 main teaching areas, as well as 6 practical classrooms for music, art and home economics to be shared by all pupils.
An assembly hall, gym hall and swimming and therapy pools are included. There would also be separate health accommodation for physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, dental treatment and nursing services.
A planning application is being finalised for the replacement Kingspark at the current Balfield playing fields. It is expected to be considered by the city council's development quality committee in August.
