Adoption Service Review
A review of Dundee's adoption service is to go before councillors in the city for approval next week.
A report to the city council's social work and health committee on Monday (August 25) states that there are proposals for developing the service, focusing on those which can be achieved within existing budgets and those that will need future funding.
Social work and health convener Councillor Helen Wright said: "The adoption service is a very important part of the social work department and the review shows that Dundee, like many other areas, faces increased demands.
"The issues that affect Dundee mirror a national situation - for example, there are more children requiring adoptive and permanent fostering placements than there are placements available.
"The review puts forward a number of action points to help address specific issues as far as the service is concerned."
The report to committee states that a range of strategies will be needed to increase the scope of families able to offer adoptive and permanent fostering places, particularly for harder to place youngsters.
More information about the family placement service is available by contacting the social work team on Dundee 436060 or on this website.
