Puppy Fraud
DOG LOVERS in Dundee have been warned about an on line scam after fake adverts were uncovered offering pedigree puppies for sale.
Trading standards officers in the city have advised potential buyers that the puppies do not exist.
The fraudsters place an advert on the web offering the pedigree pups for sale, then ask for payment up front by money transfer.
When the initial payment is received a demand for more cash is made to cover insurance, inoculation fees and other expenses which must be confirmed before "delivery".
Convener of Dundee City Council's environment services committee, George Regan said: "Please don't get sucked in to a scam like this.
"What might seem like a bargain to buy an adorable puppy is in fact another way for crooks to get their hands on your hard-earned money."
In one advert, checked out by a Penicuik woman, the cheeky fraudsters were using a Dundee City Council environmental health and trading standards department address
One phone call established that the whole thing was a scam.
Anyone looking for a new pet should contact Brown Street Kennels, where Dundee City Council always has dogs available for adoption.
