Solar energy cold callers warning
ENVIRONMENTALLY conscious householders are being warned about a solar panel and energy saving installation scam currently doing the rounds.
Scambusters has highlighted reports of consumers across the country being cold called by phone or receiving unsolicited home visits from company representatives offering the installation of solar panels or other energy saving devices on a special offer.
Pressure is being applied on the day to sign expensive contracts, without giving prospective buyers appropriate time to make an informed decision and consider other suppliers.
Trading standards chiefs are urging people interested in buying a household solar energy system to do their homework in what is a complex area.
The Energy Saving Trust, a non-profit organisation, provides free and impartial advice on how to save energy and additional information including a list of registered installers, is available from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme, a quality assurance scheme.
The MCS website is at www.microgenerationcertification.org while the Energy Saving Trust can be found at www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/Generate-your-own-energy
