Dundee Olympic Torch Countdown

As more communities are confirmed for the Olympic torch relay ahead of the London games next year, Dundee City Council is highlighting the city's role in the major world event.

Dundee has already been named as a location for the relay and the scene of a celebration on June 12 next year.

Details for the exact route of the relay through the city and the evening celebration at Baxter Park are still being worked on. Further announcements will be made in due course.

City council environment convener Cllr Bob Duncan said: "People in Dundee will be hearing the latest news about the Olympics with growing excitement, as they know their city will be involved through the torch relay.

"A lot of work is going into planning the route and the celebration, and this will be a day that Dundee can look forward to.

"Dundonians participate in a variety of sports in their communities every day and also take a keen interest in the exploits of the world's top athletic performers.

"People in Dundee are already thrilled by the prospect that the city is to be part of the torch relay in 2012 ahead of the London games.

"The Olympics is major global event that is watched by an audience of hundreds of millions and we are excited that Dundee will be involved in the build up to the games."
