People with Deafblindness

Many of the arrangements you make for someone with a hearing impairment or visual impairment will benefit a deafblind person. However, it is useful to bear the following in mind:

  • A deafblind person may speak to you but may not hear your voice.
  • Some deafblind people may hear speech when there is no background noise. If not, the person will rely on touch.
  • Many deafblind people are supported by a communicator-guide, interpreter or enabler. Again, remember to talk to the deafblind person.
