Meeting People who may have Mental Health Problems
Having a mental health problem is not the same as having a learning difficulty. The main hurdle which people with mental health problems face is other people's attitudes. However, for some people there may be physical barriers too, so do not assume that access will not be a problem.
- When you make an appointment consider where it would be most comfortable for the person to meet.
- Sometimes people like to have the opportunity to have a friend or advocate with them.
- Do not hurry someone into making a decision - give them time to make up their mind.
