This pre-1899 photograph is taken from the south end of Reform Street, and looks on to the south side of High Street, around the Town House.
'Hepworth's Emergency Premises' to the west of Castle Street, may be the key to dating this image. J Hepworth & Son, clothiers, were listed in the Dundee Directory from 1890-95 at 28, 30 and 32 Wellgate, and from then onwards at 134 Murraygate
At the extreme right is A W R Birrell's wholesale and retail wine and spirits store, No. 18 High Street. His telegraphic address was 'Central'.
