High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0285
The road leading away to the north at the centre of this photograph is Reform Street.
Of particular interest in this picture is the booksellers George Montgomery, at No. 64 High Street. A native of Dumfries, hecame to Dundee in 1868 and opened two shops, the other as a stationer in Cowgate.
He died in 1896 (portrait and biography in the Piper O' Dundee, No. 19, p. 377), the year after he sold various Burns relics. His grandmother, Jessie Lewers, was the dedicatee of several Burns songs, including 'Oh, wert thou in the cauld blast.'.
