High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0297
This photograph shows the south eastern end of Dundee High Street, with Commercial Street / Seagate in the distance, before the area at the top of Castle Street was demolished to make way for the new Royal Bank of Scotland building.
The Globe was a restaurant until 1889, but a licence was refused in that year and Smith Brothers offered to take on a longterm lease from the Bank, who apparently owned the land.
The Piper O' Dundee of 14th August 1889 carries portraits of Daniel S., George K. and James L. Smith, the three brothers who started trading at 35 Reform Street. According to that article, the lease for the building was held by the Royal Bank even then.
