This photograph shows the south side of Dundee's Nethergate to the west of the junction with Union Street, most likely taken from the south end of Lindsay Street.
Alexander Mitchell had a tailor's shop at No. 100, and James Hamilton the boot merchant was at No. 98. The Central Cycle Depot is listed in the Dundee Directory for 1897-98 as Malcolm and Sons at No. 96.
Beyonf them No. 94 housed the Coahcmen's Club (secretary R. Reid, treasurer William T. Reid), James Thomson, restaurateur (proprietor of the Café Royal, at High Street and Thorter Row), James Whitelaw, music teacher, and David Dakers, a shipmaster.
