Murraygate, Dundee - Ref: WC0415
This photograph shows the north side of Dundee's Murraygate. James Cunningham, at No. 36, was a wholesale stationer and bookseller and, according to the Dundee Directory, agents for Broome's 'Cheap & popular music'.
At No. 38 were Towns & Watson, while No. 40 was the ironmongery and cutlery belonging to W. Black. The passageway at No. 42 led to James Brodie's horse-hiring business. William Mather's tea rooms were at No. 44, above his confectionery and baker's shop.
No. 46 was Gray's stores, a tea merchant with shops at No. 31 Westport and 258 Hilltown. No. 34 at the extreme left belonged to a chimney sweep and soot merchant, Charles Dye. The Dundee Directory also lists sweeps George, James, and two William Dyes.
