Nethergate, Dundee (south side) - Ref: WC0437

Nethergate, Dundee (south side)

This photograph shows the south side of the Nethergate in Dundee looking down Lindsay Street. Unusually for Alexander Wilson, he seems not to have realised that he was masking part of the exposure.

From the trees on the lefthand side (inside the grounds of the City Churches), one can see Alfred Souter the jeweller at No. 76, Miss Mary Souter, the milliner at No. 78, The Greenock Worsted Store at No. 82. (Worsted was a finely woven wool).

No. 84 was Peter Anderson the baker, C. S. Scott was the tobacconist at No. 88, W. D. Allen, the 'trimming merchant' (he sold gloves, etc.) was at No. 90, and John R. Mitchell, was the wine merchant at No. 92. (Details from the Dundee Directory.)
