Nethergate, Dundee (south side)

This photograph of the south side of Dundee's Nethergate was taken by Alexander Wilson in around 1901. The towers in the distance are J. B. Hurrie's and Draffen & Jarvie's department stores, which stood at the north end of Union Street.

From the west (and right), the visible businesses are Mrs Farquharson, milliner, at No. 108, Thomas Murray & Sons, 'artists' colourmen, print sellers, carvers and gilders' (Dundee Directory) at Nos. 104-106 and Robert Macrae, the grocer, was at No. 102.

Alexander Mitchell, a tailor and clothier who lived at Nellville in Broughty Ferry, was at No. 100, James Hamilton, a boot merchant who lived at Gynack, Camphill in Broughty Ferry, at No. 98. Baxter's Wheel Depot (for cycles and motors) was No. 96.
