This photograph shows the southern side of the Nethergate in Dundee, opposite the City Churches, reading east to west from left to right.

David B. Murdoch, the tailor, was at No. 76, with the milliner Mrs M. Souter at No. 78. The Greenock Worsted Store (as it is listed in the Dundee Directory) was No. 82, James Young the confectioner No. 84. The Dundee Eye Institution was at No. 86.

C. S. Scott, the tobacconist, was No. 88, W. D. Allan, a trimming merchant, No. 90 and J. R. Mitchell, wine merchant at No. 92. Alexander M. Stewart, 'brother of the late Dr John Stewart' [of Lindsay Street] boasts 'the largest practice out of London'.
